Business Services: Murgitroyd’s acquisition of Hanna Moore + Curley

Armstrong is pleased to have supported Murgitroyd, a leading European provider of intellectual property (IP) services, in its acquisition of Hanna Moore + Curley (HMC), the Irish patent and trademark attorney firm.

Backed by Sovereign Capital Partners, Murgitroyd made the acquisition as part of its global buy & build strategy, with HM+C adding its specialism in obtaining IP protection for technology-led companies to the group. The acquisition also expands Murgitroyd’s global reach with HM+C’s representative office in China and broadens the range of services offered to its US corporate clients.

Armstrong conducted a series of in-depth client interviews which validated Murgitroyd’s key investment hypotheses, and confirmed that HM+C is highly regarded by its blue-chip clients for its deep knowledge of IP and its specialist sector experience, backed by responsive, high-touch client service.

Emma Flin, Investment Director at Sovereign Capital Partners, said “Armstrong provided a focused piece of CDD which delivered clear answers to our key questions about HM+C’s client proposition, and gave us detailed insight and recommendations that we will use to help grow the business.”

The structure of the legal profession is being changed by technology adoption and service innovation, and its market evolution is presenting attractive and scalable M&A opportunities across the value chain, from full-service tech-enabled law firms right through to pureplay software vendors.
