Built Environment: Fire Safety – still a hot sector for 2026?

The fire safety market has been one of the most active areas within the UK built environment over the last three to four years, driven by significant platform investments, bolt‑on activity, and continued interest across both products and services. With such sustained momentum, it’s reasonable to ask whether the sector remains attractive for investors entering 2026. We believe the answer is a clear yes — and here are five reasons why.

1. Structural demand remains resilient
Although progress has been made in addressing the significant backlog of remediation work highlighted in the aftermath of Grenfell, substantial variation remains across verticals. Many buildings and estates are still early in their journey toward full compliance, ensuring ongoing demand for years ahead.

2. A growing shift toward preventative management
Even once the industry has largely ‘caught up,’ short replacement cycles and mandatory inspection intervals will continue to drive recurring revenue. We expect estates managers to increasingly favour proactive, light‑touch maintenance approaches that maintain compliance while avoiding the costly, large‑scale upgrades seen in recent years.

3. A widening delivery sweet spot
There is increasing room for scaled yet nimble providers who deliver consistently high‑quality services. These operators are well positioned to take share from both large generalists that lack focus and small local providers that struggle to meet rising standards.

4. Technology as a differentiator
Digital tools supporting compliance — from asset tracking to automated maintenance scheduling — are becoming essential. Providers that bundle a strong technology wrapper with their core services are well placed to win and retain customers.

5. Fragmentation keeps consolidation opportunities alive
Despite active M&A, the market remains highly fragmented. Buy‑and‑build strategies continue to offer attractive pathways for geographic and service-line expansion, improved route density, and enhanced operational efficiency.
